Fell Relays (18th Oct 2009)
After many, many, many, many emails, Erewash Valley RC cobbled together two crack teams of 6 for the fell relays at Ennerdale. A bunk house high up the valley was chosen for the pre-event headquarters: a perfect venue for last minute training, mental preparation, initiation of first timers and alcoholic consumption.
EVRC entered two teams:
Neil, Brett & Scott, Nick & Tim, Richard lookalike.
Richard, Steve & Geoff, Cecilia & Phil, Neil lookalike.
After an evening of whisky in an Ennerdale barn, a meal in a disused railway carriage and tales of moisturizer, we bedded down.
A misty day greeted us as we arrived. Before long, the first leg runners were off. Richard and Neil set off and had a fairly clear run as the rain and mist held off a bit. Richard came back only slightly ahead of Neil. The paired leg then were off and the weather was getting worse. Brett & Scott closed in on Steve & Geoff and they both came in together. The navigation leg was then underway. Both teams did well in difficult conditions. Even Nick redeemed himself by getting round with Tim in good time. The last leg involved two runners who looked very much like the first leg runners. A spreadsheet of the full results is here. A great weekend and thanks to Phil for organising the accommodation.
