This event starts and finishes Hope and incorporates Cave Dale, Mam Tor, Hollins Cross, Grindsbrook, Hollins Cross (again!), Back Tor and Lose Hill to name but a few inclines. Richard managed to ignore his agonising limbs to write this report:
Just Matt and I ran the 20 miler. George and Anne did the 20 mile walk and Sue Trembirth, Sue Baker and Dennis Parker did the 8.5 mile run.
A grim morning for George and Anne who set off earlier than the runners. However, the rain stopped by 10am for the run. Hee, hee!
I managed a sprint start for the first stile to avoid the crush, but then settled in to a steady plod to Castleton and up Cave Dale, which was a river.
Matt caught me just before Mam Tor, looking far too fresh. He pulled away down from Hollins Cross but I could just see him up Grindsbrook. Unfortunately for him, he missed the control at the top of the clough. I was lucky and followed a guy straight to it.
The run along the Kinder plateau was as long as ever. A walker said that I was 11th so that kept me going. The sun was out by this point. I caught Matt at Edale Youth Hostel and also saw George and Anne. The usual banter of ‘where have you been?’ was exchanged.
The pain set in down and up to Hollins Cross again. Back Tor was pretty bad and Lose Hill was the final last summit.
The route across the fields was obvious thanks to muddy walker boots. Chased Matt down the hill and I had 2 guys gaining on me so no chance of a steady finish.
Managed to hold off the 2 behind me just... but they were 3 on the home straight, as Matt had taken a wrong turn and ended up with them.

Great result. Did they run a bit??
