Steel Fell Race
Report by Richard:
Whilst on holiday near Ambleside I decided I needed a come back race (after 5 weeks off with a back injury!). The Steel Fell race was taking place just up the road. This is a 3 mile race with 1250' of ascent. I thought that if I took it easy, I should be ok. Ha!
Lining up at the start line there were Ambleside and Borrowdale shirts in abundance, so I then realised that this was probably not such a good idea.
The climb up the fell was a real grind. It flattened out on the top but there was then a 3/4 mile run to the summit.
The lead runners were already on the descent as I rounded the summit but I held off an Ambleside runner (see photo) on the way down. I did take the descent quite steadily as the back was still a bit stiff.
Good to be racing again but must now work on the fitness.
Report and results here.
