Welcome Isabella

This week we welcome another new recruit to the fold, with Isabella Droog coming on board the good ship Erewash Valley Running Club. Welcome Isabella!
Debbie’s incredible ParkRun milestone

A huge moment of pride for EVRC took place at the weekend, when Debbie Brown volunteered at ParkRun for the 500th time! Since moving to the region, Debbie has continued with her devotion to supporting others and is a regular face at Long Eaton Junior ParkRun, where she celebrated her half-thousandth appearance this Sunday. And Debbie was in fine company, with seven other members of the club on hand to support. Well done Debbie – we’re all incredibly proud of you!
Giving back to our local community

This week saw a slight detour from the normal Wednesday night routes, as we headed over to the Montrose Court Foodbank to deliver much welcome supplies for local residents. Those who couldn’t make it also donated to provide a bountiful harvest. Well done to everyone involved!
Bank Holiday Bonanza #1 – Beat the Tram

Coming soon is the next Bob Browne Beeston Bank Holiday Bonanza, and the return of the annual Beat the Tram event. For those uninitiated, meet at the Toton Lane Tram Stop on Friday 28 August from 6:30pm. Once the 7:00pm tram arrives into the station, participants run as far as they can on the footpath and pavement adjacent the track and see how far they can run (but no further than Beeston) before being overtaken by the tram. The event concludes with drinks and pizzas in one of the Beeston pubs.
Bank Holiday Bonanza #2 – Lisa Rull’s ok at her 300th ParkRun

Following on from Beat the Tram, on Saturday 29 August, Lisa Rull will be celebrating her 300th ParkRun at Beeston, and all are invited to participate and celebrate. This particular event has everything you need from a ParkRun, with a cafe close by and ample parking, oh, and a 5km, one-lap route with an additional short out-and-back via a couple of ‘switch-backs’ on what is a flat, fast course.
Wacky Races

The Green 26.2 Mile HMP Dorchester marathon is, believe it or not, the only marathon in the world ran completely inside a prison. A race of this nature may be a hard cell, so this year organisers are also putting on a spooky Halloween evening edition as well, and advise that both head torches and a strong constitution are needed – hopefully runners will finish in the nick of time!
Name that tune!

The lyrics below belong to which hit record? Answer at the foot of the newsletter.
Ooh-ooh, nobody knows it
When I was down (I was your clown)
Oo-ooh, nobody knows it (nobody knows it)
Right from the start (I gave you my heart)
Oh-oh, I gave you my heart

And another thing…

Recent research, published last month in Runners World, has discovered that after no sleep, runners’ cadence drops and their feet spend longer in contact with the floor, essentially demonstrating that speed is slowed through fatigue. Such a revelation is soon to be followed by research into which branch of the Christian faith the Pope belongs to, and the bathroom habits of Sherlock Holmes!
Name that tune!
It was fifty years ago this week that Elton John and Kiki Dee’s duet, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” spent six weeks at Number One. Written by John with Bernie Taupin under the pseudonyms ‘Ann Orson’ and ‘Carte Blanche’, it was intended as an affectionate pastiche of the Motown style, with John originally intending to record with Dusty Springfield.
