Christmas Relays

After a lapse of ????? years a club team entered this entertaining relay race in and around Wollaton Park. Of 41 teams ours managed a very creditable 7th place. Well done all.

mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman””>Four of us tackled the Christmas Relays organised by Notts AC a really good low key event held over an approx 2.4 mile course around Wollaton Park, a perfect way to burn off those extra calories gained from eating large amounts of chocolate and mince pies and not to mention the alcohol. The course was partly on the roads of the park and across the parkland which in parts was extremely muddy I decided on trail shoes over my fell shoes which was a bad choice I feel. Anyway I had my excuse book ready with the classic “I’ve got a cold” as we all assembled at the starting area ready for the 11.00 start, we lined up with a veteran on leg 1, a lady on leg 3 and open runners on Legs 2 and 4. Steve Wickham was first out on the veteran leg coming in a great 15 minutes and 33 seconds to set us up nicely, the super quick Matty Brennan was next on leg 2 storming round in a magnificent 14 minutes and 07 seconds even managing a sprint finish with the international runner Juliet Doyle of Charnwood AC. Our lady runner running Leg 3 was Laura Millard who looked cool and composed as she came into the finishing straight after a super run coming in 17 minutes 27 seconds finally handing over to me on the final leg. I felt surprisingly good as I set out up the slight incline towards the hall and continued to feel good all the way round the course and it was really good to see Keiran Davies half way up the hill on the return section cheering me on with his dog, I manged to come home in 15 minutes and 18 seconds.  Liz Bridgen and her daughter also did the 2K fun run so well done to them too.
